Wild Estonia: two national parks

4–7 days Estonia journey

A nature journey from Lahemaa's boulder coast and raised bogs to Soomaa's floodplain forests. Walk at first light, paddle quiet rivers and sleep close enough to enter the landscape early.

Designer's note

The wild Estonia journey I would choose

With about a week, I would give one complete day to Lahemaa's coast and bogs and another to Soomaa's water and forest. When the fifth season arrives, the canoe leaves the river and crosses flooded meadows between the trees.

Two national parks itinerary

  1. Days 1–2

    Lahemaa

In Lahemaa, Estonia's oldest national park, you cross Viru bog on foot and continue through pine forest to fishing villages and a Baltic shore strewn with glacial boulders.

    Key experiences in Lahemaa

  2. Days 3–4

    Soomaa

In Soomaa, four rivers flood around raised bogs during Estonia's fifth season, and you cross the Riisa boardwalk or paddle a canoe between flooded trees.

    Key experiences in Soomaa

  3. Day 5

    Return to Tallinn

You leave Soomaa's floodplain forest and return to Tallinn, with time for one final walk through the medieval city or Estonia's modern design collection.

The fifth season

Soomaa by canoe

For a few weeks the rivers rise over the forest floor and Soomaa becomes a country you cross by canoe. Estonia's rarest season — short, wild, worth building a trip around.

Route FAQ

Wild Estonia FAQ

Q01How fit do I need to be?

Comfortably walking-fit is enough. Boardwalks are flat, canoe stretches are gentle, and every active block has a shorter version. Tell me who is coming and I set the level accordingly.

Q02What is the fifth season?

For a few weeks, usually in early spring, the rivers rise over Soomaa's forest floor and the park becomes a country you cross by canoe. It does not come on order — I watch the water and time it with you, and if your dates miss it, the parks are still the two best wild days in Estonia.

Q03When is it confirmed?

After you share your dates. I then confirm the stays, canoe conditions and seasonal access before the itinerary is final.
