Use everyday objects, textiles, glass and furniture to see how Estonian makers worked through Soviet constraint, restored independence and the choices of contemporary life.
The experience
Estonian design becomes most revealing when it is treated as evidence. Materials, forms and manufacturing choices show what makers could obtain, what homes needed and what people wanted to say in public and private life.
At ETDM, a focused visit or workshop can connect the permanent collection to a current artist or curator. The purpose is not to admire anonymous objects, but to understand the society that made and used them.

Furniture, jewelry, textiles and household objects show how Estonians solved practical problems and expressed identity under very different political systems.
ETDM offers both. The final choice should follow the current exhibition and the traveler’s interest in materials, makers or design history.
