Tallinn in a longer Estonia journey
Tallinn has been a port town for eight hundred years, and it shows in the best way: city walls with fat watchtowers, merchant houses stacked up the hill, and lanes that still follow their medieval logic. The old town is one of the best-preserved in Europe — UNESCO keeps it on the World Heritage list — and it earns every photograph taken of it.
The city keeps going past the walls. The Balti Jaam market sells everything from forest mushrooms to vintage radios. Kalamaja's wooden houses have filled with cafés and studios, and the old industrial harbor at Noblessner now holds art and good kitchens. Give Tallinn a slow day, and it repays you in full.
When you are ready, the country begins immediately: Lahemaa's forests an hour east, ferry ports pointing west toward the islands, the road south running to Tartu and the lakes. Tallinn is a great capital in a country that is even greater.

Yes — the old town alone is worth the trip: city walls, merchant houses, and eight centuries of port-town life. Most journeys I design give it a night or two, then add the country around it.

One or two nights covers the old town, a market morning, and the newer districts. Stay longer when the city itself is the point — Tallinn can fill a week if you let it.
