Soomaa day from Pärnu

Estonia day experience

Travel from Pärnu into Soomaa for a walk across a raised bog and an afternoon canoe journey on the park's rivers. In the fifth season, floodwater can carry the canoe across meadows and through forest.

Designer's note

The Soomaa day I would choose

I pair the raised bog with time on the river because Soomaa is shaped by both peat and water. When spring floods arrive, the canoe leaves the river and crosses submerged meadows between forest trees.

The fifth season

Soomaa by canoe

For a few weeks the rivers rise over the forest floor and Soomaa becomes a country you cross by canoe. Estonia's rarest season — short, wild, worth building a trip around.

Experience FAQ

Soomaa day FAQ

Q01Is the canoeing hard?

No. The rivers are slow and the stretch is chosen for calm water. First-timers and children who can sit in a canoe manage it comfortably; tell me who is coming and I set the distance.

Q02What happens in flood season?

For a few weeks, usually in early spring, the water rises over the forest floor and the day becomes a canoe journey through flooded woods — Estonia's rarest experience. It does not come on order; I watch the water and time it with you.
