Peipsi Onion Road
Along Lake Peipsi, one of Europe's largest lakes, you visit Russian Old Believer villages, walk the Onion Road and eat smoked fish and seasonal produce beside the water.

Estonia day experience
Follow the Onion Road from Tartu through Old Believer villages beside Lake Peipsi. Meet a local host over samovar tea, taste fish from a working smokehouse and walk a shore where the opposite bank lies beyond sight.
Designer's note
I plan this day around a table because food carries the shore's history directly. Warm smoked fish, samovar tea and onions grown behind village houses create an encounter you can taste, ask about and remember.

Experience FAQ
Late summer is its crown — onion harvest, full smokehouses, warm lake light. But the villages cook and pour tea from spring through autumn, and I match the stops to what the season is actually doing.
Yes. The day runs self-drive with my route notes or with a driver from Tartu, and the short distances leave time for village tables and the lakeshore.
