Iguazú Falls dropping through subtropical forest

Misiones travel guide

Iguazú

Iguazú arrives near the end of the northern Epic, after weeks of desert and altitude. The Argentine circuits enter the forest and water closely; the Brazilian side restores the full panorama.

Why this place matters

The northern road releases itself into water

Iguazú is not one waterfall but a broad broken edge where the river divides among forested islands. The Argentine side approaches through upper and lower circuits, bringing spray and individual drops close.

Across the border, Brazil supplies the panorama that no single Argentine platform can hold. Together the two views make the international day essential rather than decorative.

After Mendoza, the Puna and the red canyons, Iguazú feels almost impossible: forest opens and the horizon begins to fall.

Designer's note

See Iguazú from both countries

I include both sides of Iguazú: Argentina takes you among the separate cascades and spray, while Brazil reveals the whole wall of water. Then I keep time for toucans, butterflies and the forest beyond the falls.

I shape Iguazú days around both riverbanks and the subtropical forest beyond the falls.

  1. 01

    Enter from Argentina

Walkways place you inside spray, forest and separate cascades.

    Close encounter
  2. 02

    Cross for the panorama

The Brazilian side reveals the whole system across the river.

    Essential second view
  3. 03

Listen for life beyond the falls

Birds, plants and conservation restore the wider habitat.

Best time

Best time to visit Iguazú

April to November

Dry months for the Andes and Puna

High-desert clarity

The northwest is generally driest outside summer rain, with clear mountain light and cold high-altitude nights. Iguazú and Iberá remain warm, and their water levels still answer to rainfall upstream.

Temp
About -5 to 30 °C across altitude zones
Crowds
Clear roads, cold nights
Good places

Rainforest and full water

Heat, humidity and rain deepen the forests and wetlands around Iguazú, Misiones and Iberá. The Puna can receive summer storms that make remote roads unreliable, so the full northern circle is less dependable.

Temp
About 18 to 38 °C in the north-east
Crowds
Lush, hot and storm-prone
Good places

Iguazú FAQ

Before travelling to Iguazú

Q01How much time does Iguazú need?

Allow three full days for both sides of the falls and a quieter immersion in the surrounding forest.

Q02What can change the plan?

Water levels, heat, walkway closures and border queues can change the day. Cross-border vehicle or transfer arrangements are confirmed in writing.
