I would travel south for whales, lenga forests and glaciers calving into blue water. I would turn north for Mendoza's vineyards, the white deserts of the Puna and the roar of Iguazú. Both deserve a journey of their own.

Walk among the Puna's wind-cut stone, wait for Fitz Roy to emerge from cloud and glide through Iberá beside capybaras and caiman.

Catamarca Puna

Pumice fields, volcanoes, salt basins and high settlements reached from Antofagasta de la Sierra.

El Chaltén

Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, forest and moraine reached directly from a small walking town.

Iberá Wetlands

Lagoons, floating grass, caiman, capybara and rewilding across the great Corrientes wetland.

Argentina changes scale before it changes scenery. Buenos Aires opens through voices, tables and political memory; the western road runs for days before vineyards gather beneath the Andes. Farther north, red canyons rise toward salt and volcanic plateaus, then the land falls east into forest, waterfalls and floating grass.

Patagonia begins at the continent's far end. From Ushuaia, the circle crosses Tierra del Fuego and follows the Atlantic north through marine country before turning toward Andean lakes. The return belongs to Chilean fjords, gravel, ferries and the Southern Ice Field, then to El Chaltén, Perito Moreno Glacier and Torres del Paine.

Each Epic begins and ends at its own natural gateway, with the seasons and the road shaping every day between. Bring me the direction that calls you, the time you can give it and the kind of horizon you want to remember.

Longer daylight, open mountain roads and more dependable ferry operations make this the primary window for the full Patagonia circle. Wind and rapid weather changes remain part of every day.

Copper forest and low light

Lenga forests turn copper and the busiest trails soften, but daylight shortens and early snow can close higher roads. The full cross-border circle needs careful date-by-date checks.

April to November

Dry months for the Andes and Puna

High-desert clarity

The northwest is generally driest outside summer rain, with clear mountain light and cold high-altitude nights. Iguazú and Iberá remain warm, and their water levels still answer to rainfall upstream.

December to March

Green summer in the north-east

Rainforest and full water

Heat, humidity and rain deepen the forests and wetlands around Iguazú, Misiones and Iberá. The Puna can receive summer storms that make remote roads unreliable, so the full northern circle is less dependable.

Travel to Patagonia from November to March for long daylight, mountain access and seasonal ferries. Choose April–May or September–November for clearer Puna roads and gentler heat around Iguazú and Iberá.

How many days do you need in Argentina?

Allow 10–14 days for one region, 40–50 days for Epic Northern Argentina and 50–65 days for Epic Patagonia. Combining both flagships takes more than three months and a vehicle change.

Before choosing north or south

Q01Which Argentina Epic should I choose first?

Choose Patagonia for ocean, wind, mountains and long wilderness roads. Choose the north for wine, high desert, living Andean cultures, rainforest and wetlands.

Q02Can I combine both Epics?

Yes, but together they require more than three months and a complete vehicle change between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia. I would normally plan them as two different journeys.

Q03Can one rental car cross into Chile and Brazil?

Only with the rental company's written authorization, insurance and border documents. Those permissions are confirmed for the exact vehicle and dates before the journey is offered.
