A way into Argentina

The road is the continuity, not the attraction

Argentina rewards road travel because its major landscapes often transform along the approach. The Pampas make Mendoza's Andes feel earned; Atlantic steppe makes the Patagonian lakes feel suddenly enclosed.

A route still needs discipline. Every overnight must carry a reason, every border must serve geography and every remote day must match the capabilities of the actual vehicle.

Begin at the Beagle Channel, follow Patagonia's Atlantic wildlife coast north, then cross into Chile for rainforest, fjords and the Carretera Austral. The return passes the Southern Ice Field and Torres del Paine before Ushuaia reappears beneath the mountains.

Dry months for the Andes and Puna

High-desert clarity

The northwest is generally driest outside summer rain, with clear mountain light and cold high-altitude nights. Iguazú and Iberá remain warm, and their water levels still answer to rainfall upstream.
