Argentina has two very different travel calendars. Patagonia needs long summer light and operating ferries; the northern high desert is easier outside its wettest months.
Choose November to March for Epic Patagonia. Mountain areas are more accessible and Chile's Carretera Austral ferries are most usable, although wind, rain and sudden weather remain normal.
Choose April–May or September–November for northern Argentina. Puna roads are often clearer and Misiones and Corrientes are less oppressively hot. Winter can also work, with short days and freezing nights at altitude.
Wildlife has narrower seasons. Whales, penguins, elephant seals and orcas move through Península Valdés at different times; Iberá remains rich in wildlife year-round but becomes intensely hot in summer.
