Why this place matters

A sea that appears in estuaries and sudden cliffs

Between Monte León and Península Valdés, Ruta 3 covers enormous distance while the Atlantic appears only intermittently. Rías and sheltered bays provide the strongest contact with water.

Puerto Deseado is one such threshold, where a drowned river valley extends inland. The wider coast also carries oil, fishing and port histories that complicate any notion of empty nature.
