Puerto Varas and the Chilean Lakes experience

Walk the Petrohué Falls beneath Osorno

Follow short lava-rock paths beside turquoise rapids where the Petrohué River cuts through material from Osorno Volcano.

The experience

See volcano, river and temperate forest in one frame

At Saltos del Petrohué, water from Todos los Santos Lake races through channels cut into ancient lava inside Chile's oldest national park.

The walk is paired with a clear-weather ascent on Osorno's lower road only when cloud and volcanic conditions make the mountain leg worthwhile.

Experience FAQ

Walk the Petrohué Falls beneath Osorno

Q01Are the falls a high vertical waterfall?

No. They are powerful cascades and chutes through dark volcanic rock, colored by mineral-rich glacial water.

Q02Will we see Osorno clearly?

Only if weather cooperates; the mountain can disappear completely in cloud.

Plan with Alex

Plan Petrohué and Osorno

Follow Patagonia toward the ice, or take the northern road from vineyard shade to Iguazú's thunder.

Tell me which landscape you keep returning to, and we will build the right Argentina journey around it.

Portrait of Alex

I would travel south for whales, lenga forests and glaciers calving into blue water. I would turn north for Mendoza's vineyards, the white deserts of the Puna and the roar of Iguazú. Both deserve a journey of their own.
