Namibia desert, coast and safari journeys guide

Best time to visit Namibia

April to August is the easiest season for a first Namibia journey: cool desert mornings, crisp Atlantic air and dry-season waterholes in Etosha. Summer brings greener northern landscapes and storm light for travelers who welcome the heat.

Field note

Namibia through the seasons

April to August is the easiest season for a first Namibia journey. Dawn is cold in the desert, the Atlantic stays crisp and Etosha's dry-season waterholes draw wildlife into clearer view.

April, May and June are my favourite balance for desert, coast and safari. Sossusvlei mornings are cool, Swakopmund's fog is sharp and peak safari demand has not yet arrived.

July and August bring cold starts and strong safari conditions. Animals gather around Etosha's waterholes, but popular gates and camps are busier.

September and October are hot inland. Sossusvlei and Etosha require early starts and long midday pauses.

From November to March, thunderclouds build over greener northern ground. Summer is quieter and dramatic, but it also brings heat and variable afternoons; the cool coast offers relief.

Tell me your dates and the Namibia scene you most want to experience. I will plan the journey around the best available light, wildlife and weather.

Namibia season FAQ

Short answers before picking your month

Q01What is the easiest overall season for a first Namibia trip?

Usually April to August. Desert mornings are cooler, the coast is crisp, and Etosha's dry-season waterholes draw wildlife into clearer view.

Q02When is Namibia hottest and hardest?

September and October can be the most punishing inland months for heat, especially if the route tries to do too much at midday.

Q03Is the green season worth it?

Yes for the right traveler. Summer rains bring storm light and greener north-country landscapes, but you need more tolerance for heat and variable afternoons.

Let's plan your Namibia journey

Cross Deadvlei at dawn, follow desert wildlife tracks near Swakopmund and wait beside an Etosha waterhole as elephants emerge through the dust.

We will begin with your dates, your pace and the image that brought Namibia into your mind. From there, I will draw the journey that belongs to you.

Portrait of Alex

I want Namibia's defining moments at their best: Deadvlei before the heat, the living desert while tracks are still sharp, Etosha as elephants approach the water. Around them, we make time for the guides, makers and conservationists who turn a beautiful road into a journey you understand.
