Experience overview
Fog erases the horizon at Swakopmund. The Atlantic is steel-colored and cold, old facades emerge softly from the mist, and the dunes begin beyond the last streets as if the town had been set down between two elements.
In the morning, go into the sand with someone who knows its minute signatures: the curl of a sidewinder, a beetle's stippled path, a burrow almost invisible underfoot. Come back to the salt air and spend the afternoon walking. The car can wait.
You feel Swakopmund before you see it. The windows cool, fog gathers over the road, and the Atlantic appears in a line of pewter light.
