Windhoek experience

Meet Windhoek's carnival tradition

Meet the societies that have shaped WIKA into a distinctly Windhoek carnival, with its own calendar, humour and inherited rituals.

The experience

Understand the societies behind WIKA

WIKA grew through Windhoek's carnival societies, which carry German-language carnival forms into a Namibian capital with its own humour and social history.

A confirmed organizer or society member can explain the calendar, roles and rituals before the procession; no personal encounter is promised without consent.

Experience FAQ

Understanding WIKA

Q01Is a society member guaranteed to meet us?

No. A personal introduction appears in the final journey only after the organizer or society member has agreed.

Q02Why add context before the events?

WIKA's German-Namibian roots, societies and annual rituals are not self-explanatory to a first-time visitor.

Plan with Alex

Meet the people who keep WIKA running

Cross Deadvlei at dawn, follow desert wildlife tracks near Swakopmund and wait beside an Etosha waterhole as elephants emerge through the dust.

We will begin with your dates, your pace and the image that brought Namibia into your mind. From there, I will draw the journey that belongs to you.

Portrait of Alex

I want Namibia's defining moments at their best: Deadvlei before the heat, the living desert while tracks are still sharp, Etosha as elephants approach the water. Around them, we make time for the guides, makers and conservationists who turn a beautiful road into a journey you understand.
