Twyfelfontein preserves one of Africa's largest concentrations of rock engravings, including animals, human figures and tracks cut into sandstone.
A site guide explains why water, movement and ritual belong together here; the famous lion matters, but the full landscape is the work.

Visitor access is controlled and the guided route protects both the engravings and the meaning carried between panels.
Morning is cooler and kinder to the stone's detail; heat and uneven ground make midday a poor choice.
