The Kalahari's red dunes run in long parallel ridges anchored by grass, shrubs and camel-thorn rather than shifting into bare mountains of sand.
A guide follows tracks, insects and plants to show why this semi-arid ecosystem supports far more visible life than the Namib dune sea.
