Okavango Delta experience

Walk an Okavango island

Step from the mokoro onto dry ground and follow tracks through woodland shaped by floodwater, termites and passing wildlife.

The experience

Understand how dry islands form inside the delta

Okavango islands rise from termite mounds and accumulated soil, creating woodland inside a landscape governed by seasonal floodwater.

A guide identifies tracks, plants and animal routes on foot, making the structure of the delta legible beyond the beauty of its channels.

Experience FAQ

Walk an Okavango island with a guide

Q01Is walking always possible?

No. Water, wildlife, fire and the guide's field assessment determine whether an island route is safe.

Q02Is this a big-game walking safari?

The purpose is close observation of ecology and signs, not approaching large animals.

Plan with Alex

Plan the island walk

Cross Deadvlei at dawn, follow desert wildlife tracks near Swakopmund and wait beside an Etosha waterhole as elephants emerge through the dust.

We will begin with your dates, your pace and the image that brought Namibia into your mind. From there, I will draw the journey that belongs to you.

Portrait of Alex

I want Namibia's defining moments at their best: Deadvlei before the heat, the living desert while tracks are still sharp, Etosha as elephants approach the water. Around them, we make time for the guides, makers and conservationists who turn a beautiful road into a journey you understand.
