The experience

Learn how the Kavango supports food, work and belief

The community-run Mbunza Living Museum focuses on the knowledge of a river people: fishing, cultivation, food preparation, craft, games and oral history.

The full programme gives context to what the boat journey sees from the water and directs income to the hosts preserving and teaching those skills.

Experience FAQ

Spend a day at the Mbunza Living Museum

Q01Is this a staged village?

It is an educational museum and communal business created by Mbunza hosts, not a claim that contemporary families live only as demonstrated.

Q02How much time is worthwhile?

The longer combined programme is preferable when possible because fishing, farming and craft explain different parts of river life.

Plan with Alex

Plan the Mbunza programme

Cross Deadvlei at dawn, follow desert wildlife tracks near Swakopmund and wait beside an Etosha waterhole as elephants emerge through the dust.

We will begin with your dates, your pace and the image that brought Namibia into your mind. From there, I will draw the journey that belongs to you.

Portrait of Alex

I want Namibia's defining moments at their best: Deadvlei before the heat, the living desert while tracks are still sharp, Etosha as elephants approach the water. Around them, we make time for the guides, makers and conservationists who turn a beautiful road into a journey you understand.
