NamibRand experience

Read the southern sky

Use naked-eye constellations and a telescope inside NamibRand's Dark Sky Reserve, far from settlement glow.

The experience

Turn a dark night into a guided map of the universe

NamibRand limits artificial light across a vast reserve, preserving exceptionally dark southern skies.

An astronomy-trained guide moves from the Southern Cross and Magellanic Clouds to planets, star clusters and deep-sky objects visible through a telescope.

Experience FAQ

Read the southern sky with an astronomy guide

Q01Does moonlight matter?

Yes. A bright moon reveals the desert but hides faint stars, so I check lunar phase when astronomy is a priority.

Q02What if the sky is cloudy?

Cloud or high wind can cancel telescope use; the journey does not depend on a guaranteed clear night.

Plan with Alex

Plan the astronomy night

Cross Deadvlei at dawn, follow desert wildlife tracks near Swakopmund and wait beside an Etosha waterhole as elephants emerge through the dust.

We will begin with your dates, your pace and the image that brought Namibia into your mind. From there, I will draw the journey that belongs to you.

Portrait of Alex

I want Namibia's defining moments at their best: Deadvlei before the heat, the living desert while tracks are still sharp, Etosha as elephants approach the water. Around them, we make time for the guides, makers and conservationists who turn a beautiful road into a journey you understand.
