Waterberg Plateau Park experience

Hike onto Waterberg Plateau

Climb through red sandstone to the flat-topped plateau, where permanent springs support forest, birds and wildlife above the Kalahari plain.

The experience

Climb from spring-fed forest to the plateau rim

Waterberg rises as a 50-kilometer wall of porous red sandstone, with permanent springs feeding dense vegetation at its base.

The climb links those springs to the plateau above, then opens a long view across the Kalahari plain that explains the mountain's refuge-like isolation.

Experience FAQ

Hike onto Waterberg Plateau

Q01Is this the 48-kilometer trail?

Not necessarily. I select a short climb or bookable wilderness route to match the traveler's time and fitness.

Q02Do we need a guide?

Short resort trails may be independent; longer plateau and wilderness routes require current booking and guide rules.

Plan with Alex

Plan the plateau hike

Cross Deadvlei at dawn, follow desert wildlife tracks near Swakopmund and wait beside an Etosha waterhole as elephants emerge through the dust.

We will begin with your dates, your pace and the image that brought Namibia into your mind. From there, I will draw the journey that belongs to you.

Portrait of Alex

I want Namibia's defining moments at their best: Deadvlei before the heat, the living desert while tracks are still sharp, Etosha as elephants approach the water. Around them, we make time for the guides, makers and conservationists who turn a beautiful road into a journey you understand.
