Lüderitz and Kolmanskop experience

Enter Kolmanskop's sand-filled houses

Walk through the diamond town abandoned to the Namib, where dunes fill a theatre, hospital and once-grand German houses.

The experience

See the desert reclaim a diamond town room by room

Kolmanskop rose after diamonds were found in 1908, then emptied as mining shifted south and the desert entered its buildings.

A guide separates the real machinery, segregation and diamond economy from the photogenic sand, giving the ruins a history before free time to explore approved interiors.

Experience FAQ

Enter Kolmanskop with a guide

Q01Can we enter without a guide?

Public access follows fixed tour and permit rules; photography access can differ from the standard guided visit.

Q02Are all buildings safe to enter?

No. Visitors must follow current signs and guide instructions because floors, stairs and structures continue to deteriorate.

Plan with Alex

Plan Kolmanskop

Cross Deadvlei at dawn, follow desert wildlife tracks near Swakopmund and wait beside an Etosha waterhole as elephants emerge through the dust.

We will begin with your dates, your pace and the image that brought Namibia into your mind. From there, I will draw the journey that belongs to you.

Portrait of Alex

I want Namibia's defining moments at their best: Deadvlei before the heat, the living desert while tracks are still sharp, Etosha as elephants approach the water. Around them, we make time for the guides, makers and conservationists who turn a beautiful road into a journey you understand.
