Sossusvlei experience

Cross Deadvlei at sunrise

Walk onto white clay among centuries-dead camel-thorn trees as the first light reaches the orange walls of Big Daddy.

The experience

Reach Namibia's most graphic landscape before the heat

Deadvlei is a white clay pan cut off from the Tsauchab River, where dead camel-thorn trees remain upright beneath some of the Namib's highest dunes.

At first light, black trunks, white ground and orange sand separate into stark layers before heat and visitors flatten the experience.

Experience FAQ

Cross Deadvlei at sunrise

Q01Can we arrive before sunrise?

Entry time depends on where we stay, park gate rules and the current 4x4 shuttle; I design the night before around legal early access.

Q02How far is the walk?

The final approach crosses soft sand from the 4x4 area; heat and mobility determine pace and whether assistance is needed.

Plan with Alex

Plan Deadvlei at dawn

Cross Deadvlei at dawn, follow desert wildlife tracks near Swakopmund and wait beside an Etosha waterhole as elephants emerge through the dust.

We will begin with your dates, your pace and the image that brought Namibia into your mind. From there, I will draw the journey that belongs to you.

Portrait of Alex

I want Namibia's defining moments at their best: Deadvlei before the heat, the living desert while tracks are still sharp, Etosha as elephants approach the water. Around them, we make time for the guides, makers and conservationists who turn a beautiful road into a journey you understand.
