Saaremaa experience
Learn the dense, exuberant embroidery of Muhu from a family craft business, beginning a flower motif while its maker explains the island colors, garments and slippers it belongs to.
The experience
Muhu embroidery is immediately recognizable: brilliant flowers and leaves worked densely against dark cloth, often on skirts, jackets, blankets and slippers. A family craftswoman teaches the first stitches while showing how the motifs belong to complete island dress.
The session gives the short crossing through Muhu a purpose. Instead of treating the island as a road to Saaremaa, you meet one of the practices through which Muhu made its identity visible.
