Visit Lydia Koidula's childhood home, where her family ran a school and edited the first regular Estonian-language newspaper while a national public voice was taking shape.
The experience
In this modest schoolhouse, Johann Voldemar Jannsen taught children and edited Perno Postimees while his daughter Lydia Koidula grew into a poet and playwright. Their home joined education, journalism and literature at the moment Estonians were building a public culture in their own language.
A guided visit replaces a broad historical label with a family, working rooms and printed words. It also connects Pärnu directly to the Song Celebration story already encountered in Tallinn and Tartu.
