Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park

Hluhluwe-iMfolozi folds rivers and steep green hills into one of South Africa's oldest protected landscapes. Rhino conservation gives the safari a specific history and responsibility.

Hluhluwe-iMfolozi in brief

Rhino country with a conservation memory

Hluhluwe-iMfolozi rises and falls through green Zululand hills. Roads turn sharply, riverbeds disappear below the slopes and an animal can step into view at much closer range than the open plains suggest.

Rhino give the park its deepest gravity. The encounter is powerful on its own, but a conservation voice reveals the long work and continuing risk behind the sight of one heavy animal feeding calmly in thorn.

A rhino on a green hillside is not only a sighting. Here it carries the long, unfinished story of protection, pressure and survival.

Designer's note

See rhinos with their history intact

I choose a guide who can share the thrill of seeing a rhino and explain the conservation work behind that moment. The history belongs inside the safari, not outside it.

I connect wildlife days with conservation history and the wider human landscape of KwaZulu-Natal.

  1. 01

Watch the hills reveal the wildlife

Elevation and river valleys make each view different from Kruger's broader roads.

    Distinct habitat
  2. 02

    Ask about rhino

Conservation history belongs inside the day, not beneath a sightings list.

    Protection story
  3. 03

    Continue toward water

The short southbound line carries the journey naturally into iSimangaliso.

    Bushveld to wetland
