Winelands in brief
The Cape Winelands gather vineyards into valleys held by granite mountains. Rows follow the slope, old towns sit beneath oaks and every view seems to invite one more tasting.
The deeper journey resists that arithmetic. Wine carries land use, labour, water, biodiversity and skill. One grower, cook or cellar worker can make a single valley more vivid than a day spent collecting labels.
A tasting becomes memorable when the valley, the workers, the cellar and the meal are allowed to speak together.

Winelands journeys
The vineyard valleys form the final approach to Cape Town from the Garden Route.
Best time
Long, dry Cape days favour the peninsula, Winelands and Garden Route. The eastern interior is hotter and summer rain can turn safari afternoons dramatic.
Namaqualand can flower after winter rain while safari country remains dry. Displays vary with weather, so the route follows current reports rather than promising one fixed field.
Cool, dry days make this the easiest eastern safari season. Kruger vegetation thins, mornings can be cold inland and the Cape receives its winter rain.
