Seven days are best spent around Johannesburg and Kruger, Cape Town and the Winelands, or one stretch of coast. Combining opposite ends of the country leaves too little time on the ground.
Twelve to eighteen days can cover one region well. Travel from Johannesburg through Panorama Route and Kruger into KwaZulu-Natal, or follow Addo and the Garden Route west to the Winelands and Cape Town.
Three weeks give either journey more time, or allow a safari and Cape Town combination with one domestic flight. The Drakensberg, Wild Coast and Northern Cape still need a longer trip.
Epic South Africa takes roughly 50–65 days. It travels from Johannesburg through Kruger and the Indian Ocean coast to Cape Town, then returns through the Cederberg, Namaqualand and Kalahari.
