The experience

Walk beyond the waterfall into Augrabies' arid ecology

The Dassie Trail leaves the main waterfall railings for granite hills, hardy plants and quieter gorge views.

It gives Augrabies enough ground to become a national park rather than a single photograph.

Experience FAQ

Hike Augrabies' Dassie Trail

Q01How long is the trail?

SANParks describes the Dassie Trail as roughly eight kilometers, but current routing and closures must be confirmed.

Q02Is it suitable in summer?

Only under safe temperatures and park advice. Exposure can make a moderate distance dangerous in high heat.

Plan with Alex

Plan the Dassie Trail

Travel from Johannesburg into wildlife country, follow the warm coast toward the Cape, or let spring flowers lead you north into the Kalahari.

We begin with the part of South Africa you most want to feel, then give the country enough time to change around you.

Portrait of Alex

I want you to follow leopard tracks at dawn, swim in the warm Indian Ocean, meet artists and historians in the cities, then watch the last light turn the Kalahari dunes red. South Africa can hold all of this in one journey.
